The first Chromebook from Canadian computer company HEXA Electronics has gone on sale priced at $295.
First announced at the Google/Intel press event back in May, the company’s “Chromebook Pi” portable has been available to buy directly for a few months. More recently it was made available to purchase through Amazon.ca.
The device itself is fairly standard fare and sticks closely to the specifications path carved out by the bigger name OEMs. It uses a regular 11.6-inch display at a resolution of 1366×768 and is powered by an Intel Celeron (Bay Trail) CPU but does come with above average RAM and storage at 4GB and 32GB respectively.
Compared to other Chromebooks, many of which are now touting 14 hour battery lives, the comparatively low offering for the Pi, just 7 hours according to the product listing page, means that the lower price isn’t without compromises.

Buy It
It’s not the most remarkable or unique Chrome device money can buy right now (something perhaps not best served by the lack of decent promotional photos). But that smaller OEMs like HEXA and CTL are able to get in on the fun underlines just how big and fast growth for Google’s cloud-centric operating system is getting.
