Google is upping the amount of Google Drive storage it offers with new Chromebooks, jumping from 100GB to a mammoth 1TB for two years.

The ‘holiday bonus’ means anyone finding a Chromebook under their Christmas tree next month will be unwrapping an additional $240 worth of value — more than the cost of most Chromebooks themselves!

“With that much free storage, you can use your Chromebook for work, play and pretty much everything else you’ll do this holiday season,” Google says in its blog post announcing the feature.

The new 1TB offer only applies to purchases of new, eligible Chromebooks and needs to be redeemed before January 1, 2015.

It’s not clear which devices are ‘eligible’, though Google has updated its Chrome Goodies Help page pointing out that the 1TB offer can be claimed even if you’ve previously redeemed the 100GB offer on an older Chromebook. Google does not typically allow Drive space to be ‘stacked’, even if buying a new device.

Secondhand, used, open box, and refurbished devices are, as with other Chromebook promotions, unlikely to be eligible for the holiday offer.

Don’t forget: once redeemed, your free Drive space can be accessed and used online and on other operating systems.
