It’s easy — once you know how.
To adjust the brightness of a backlit keyboard on a Chromebook you need to hold the Alt
key and tap the screen brightness up/screen brightness down keys. This will increase/decrease the intensity of your keyboard backlight.

This simple (if little-known) tip will work backlit keyboards on all Chromebooks that have them, including the Google Pixelbook, Acer Chromebook Spin 13, and the Asus Chromebook Flip C434 and newer models.
Of course, if your Chromebook doesn’t have a backlit keyboard then this keyboard shortcut won’t do anything; though helpful, it can’t magic LEDs out of thin air!
