It’s hard to believe that it’s 3 years since the original Google Chromecast launched.
But it is; this weekend saw the $35 streaming stick turn three, having launched back in July of 2013.
Google has shared a shiny gif (which you can see above) on its Google+ profile to celebrate the occasion, but has stopped short of offering any scintillating sales or promotional offers.
Not that Chromecast users are short of them!
The Chromecast single-handedly changed the way many of us stream content. It’s the biggest streaming stick on the market, and has, through a nifty combination of price and wide compatibility, made millions of big screens far smarter than they would have otherwise been.
These days you’re likely to find Google Cast capabilities built into Smart TVs, set-top boxes and wireless speakers.
With a well-received (and marginally faster) 2nd generation model and an audio-only streamer in Chromecast Audio joining the family, the little dongle that dared to dream big shows no sign of slowing down.
I’m off to cast some Netflix to celebrate!
