Spotify for Chrome has been updated today, and now supports App Notifications using Chrome’s Notification Centre.

Last week we reported that Spotify has released a Chrome app into the Chrome Web Store. Today, the Spotify Web Player team have announced a new version of the Chrome app. This new app is designed to support Chrome’s Web App APIs to support future functionality. With this release, it now supports App Notifications, and will use Chrome’s Notification Centre to display the notifications, like Gmail.

Spotify has had to re-release the new Chrome app onto the Chrome Web Store, so the download link has changed. If you previously installed the Spotify Chrome App, uninstall it and download the new app. Future updates to the Chrome App will be applied to the new store link.

Finally, you must enable the app notification feature in the Spotify App from the Setting panel.

One side note: to open Spotify in its Chrome-less window in Chrome OS you need to do the following: In the App tray, right click on the Spotify icon and select “Open as window”.
