The popular 13.3-inch Toshiba Chromebook 2 is now available to order on Amazon in the UK from £220.
Launched in the US last year, the Toshiba Chromebook 2 has proven a big hit in the US with stock routinely running low at retailers like Amazon and Best Buy.
Now available to pre-order in the UK, with an estimated (though we’re led to believe overstated) shipping date of ‘1-2 months’.
Toshiba Chromebook 2 Specs
Based on an Intel Celeron N2840 processor (dual core) running at 2.16GHz, the second generation Toshiba Chromebook is capable of handling most tasks likely to be thrown at it. The Bay Trail architecture also gives battery life a boost with Toshiba claiming that the standard model will last 11.5 hours on a single charge.
IPS Vs TN Panel
‘The more expensive model offers 4GB of RAM and an IPS display running at Full HD resolution.’
Screen quality and resolution are the big differences between the two models.
The standard, cheaper version comes with 2GB RAM, a standard TN panel with HD resolution (1366×768) and battery life of 11.5 hours. It retails on Amazon for £219.99.
The more expensive of the pair offers 4GB of RAM plus an IPS display running at Full HD resolution (1920×1080). The increase in pixels does impact battery life slightly with Toshiba touting ‘just’ 9.5 hours for this model. Amazon UK has this model available for £269.99.
Audio company Skullcandy has helped tweak the speakers, positioned to the left and righthand sides of the keyboard.

While not judged to be the fastest Chromebook available based on benchmarks — it’s never wise to give too much deference to the percentages and decimal points thrown out by computer testing — the Toshiba Chromebook 2 has great real world performance, a great form factor and fantastic build quality.
It’s the kind of computer people enjoy using regardless of whether it loads webpages a millisecond faster than other, more expensive models.
Toshiba plans to release a touchscreen version of its second generation Chromebook sometime this year.
